According to Ukrainian folk legend, the fate of the world depends upon the creation of pysanky, Ukrainian decorated eggs. If this custom is forsaken, evil (characterized as a horrible serpent chained for eternity) will overrun the world. The making of pysanky is said to strengthen the serpent’s chains, keeping evil in check for yet another year!
Ukraine has been on all of our minds as the heartbreaking news of war continues to unfold. In solidarity with the people of Ukraine, Robin Davis and Carole Crompton will be holding pysanky “play” shops in the Rosa Zeller Hall at Guilford Community Church. They will be held Fridays from 9:00am-Noon throughout the month of March. There will also be two Saturday workshops 3/12 and 3/19 also 9-Noon. No equipment is needed. They have dyes, beeswax, candles, and kistky (batik tools) aplenty! I am asking participants to bring a dozen white eggs (farm stand eggs absorb the dyes better) OR a package of CHEAP napkins. Donations are welcome, and will be kept with Debra in the church office, to be sent to the International Rescue Committee.
Please RSVP for all Fridays and Saturday, 3/19 to Robin Davis at 802-380-0994
& for Saturday, 3/12 to Carole Crompton at 802- 689-0577 or cmc51@gmail.com. 💙💛🌻
