More about the band:

The Woodpeckers joyfully play the classic Swing of the 1920’s and 30’s. In a highly improvisatory, good-humored, spontaneous, conversational and interactive style they interpret the exhilarating music of that time, when jazz was being born and was embraced and celebrated by young and old.

The quartet includes Ron Kelley; tenor sax, Walter Slowinski; clarinet, Ty Gibbons; upright bass, and Mark Anagnostopulos; rhythm guitar. All members sing.

Ron Kelley has played the saxophone for nearly his whole life. He was the bandleader at the Bread and Puppet Theater for over twenty years. In Vermont he has played in many bands including the Barn Party House Band, the Vermont Jazz Center Sextet and Ron Kelley and the Hot Noodles. He was music director at Leland and Gray High School for many years.

Ty Gibbons plays upright and electric bass in many local and regional bands, He composes music for film, TV and media.

Walter Slowinski plays clarinet and sax in local bands including Jazzberry Jam, the Celebration Brass Band, and the 2 Bit 2 Man Froggy-Went-A’Courtin’ Orchestra.

Mark Anagnostopulos plays regularly with Silverback Swing. He serves on the board of the Vermont Jazz Center.
